The SASF Fall Workshop for violin and viola participants will be held at the
Frost School of Music, University of Miami, Coral Gables, FL.
The workshop on Saturday, October 11, will include group, fiddle, and various other classes. Participants will finish the workshop with a concert featuring the fiddle and group pieces studied during the workshop.
Optional masterclasses will be available on Friday, October 10, and Sunday, October 12.
Also, on Sunday, the Deakins will be hosting a group fiddle class.

Participant will be assigned to a one-hour lesson block and will receive a twenty-minute semi-private lesson where student has one on one instruction from an instructor while other students observe. It is recommended that the student, with the help of their home studio teacher, choose a piece that is polished and memorized. Fiddle and improvisation lessons are also available. Instructor requests will be considered, but are not guaranteed.
Classes - 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Lunch break (on your own) - 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Classes - 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Concert - 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Participants studying Pre-Twinkle or Twinkle in their home studio are encouraged to join us Saturday morning for two classes: Rhythm & Movement with Mrs. Lisa Deakins and Group Class with Mr. James Hutchins. Families are welcome to stay for the afternoon concert. Children must be accompanied by an adult the entire time. Pricing valid until October 1, 2025.
A 30-minute music class specially designed for children between the ages of 0-4 and their caregiver. Pricing valid until October 1, 2025.
Music teachers are invited to join us for the weekend. Registration includes masterclass and workshop observations, teacher class and lunch on Saturday, and participation in the Deakins' fiddle group class on Sunday. Pricing valid until October 1, 2025.

This 90-minute class will take place on Sunday morning. Participants should be in late Suzuki book one or higher.
James Hutchins lives in Silver Spring, Maryland, with his wonderful and gorgeous wife and his fabulous and entertaining son. He grew up in the Suzuki Method, has been a Suzuki teacher for over 25 years and is a proud Suzuki dad. James is a registered teacher trainer who has taught at workshops, institutes and classes around the world, including South Korea, Iceland, Peru, Lithuania, Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, Belize, Bermuda, the Bahamas and throughout the States. In 2018, James was a guest Clinician at the 67th Suzuki Method Summer School in Matsumoto, Japan. His studio has performed for former Secretary of State and First Lady Hillary Clinton at the White House, at the National Zoo, the U.S. Capitol, the Maryland State Capitol, the Lincoln Memorial, the National Aquarium and on the Millennium Stage and with the National Symphony at The Kennedy Center. They have also played the National Anthem for the Baltimore Orioles, Washington Wizards and Nationals. James also had the honor of performing for Dr. and Mrs. Suzuki at their home in Japan.
Lisa Deakins is a violinist and fiddler living in Charleston, South Carolina. She is a versatile musician who enjoys performing and teaching across the United States. Lisa has worked professionally for country music artists Pam Tillis and Whisperin’ Bill Anderson in Nashville, TN, and her music has taken her to renowned stages including the Grand Ole Opry, Song of the Mountains, and the Crook & Chase television show. She is very fortunate to have grown up in the Suzuki method as Nashville is largely a “play-by-ear” town! Lisa has recorded five professional albums and received an International Bluegrass Music Association Award for “Recorded Event of the Year." She is the owner of Deakins Suzuki Strings, where her students study alternative fiddling styles as well as classical playing. Lisa has compiled, arranged, and edited a series of music books for Suzuki violinists called “Fiddlin’ Favorites,” licensed by the International Suzuki Association. She has also earned the Certificate of Achievement from the Suzuki Association of the Americas, an award given to teachers that demonstrate an outstanding commitment to lifelong learning and excellence in their teaching. When Lisa is not teaching, you can find her performing across the southeast with her husband in her acoustic and folk duo Derek & Lisa. Lisa is excited to embrace all three points of the Suzuki triangle: student, teacher, and now Suzuki parent to her violin-playing son!
Dr. Derek Deakins is a fiddler, violinist, and registered Suzuki violin teacher originally from Kingsport, Tennessee. Derek’s musical journey began with Suzuki violin lessons at the age of five and has taken him all around the world as a professional musician. Derek has performed in several foreign countries and all of the 48 contiguous United States in venues ranging from Madison Square Garden to the Grand Ole Opry. Derek graduated from Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee with a Bachelor’s of Music degree in Instrumental Music Education and holds a Master’s of Music degree in Orchestral Conducting (East Carolina University) and a Doctorate in Music Education (Liberty University). Derek has recorded and produced four professional albums, is a National Board Certified teacher who has enjoyed working as Director of Orchestras at Wando High School in Mt Pleasant, South Carolina, is a champion of the South Carolina Coastal Fair’s fiddle contest and has co-authored a music book called Fiddlin’ Favorites Volume 2 for violin students. Additionally, Dr. Deakins is honored to be a musician and teaching artist on staff at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. When Derek is not teaching or performing, he is playing guitar and singing with his wife, Lisa, in the acoustic trio called Gravel Road Bluegrass.
Charles Regauer is string Teacher and Administrator for Suzuki School at Centenary College. He received a B.A. from Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul – Brazil in 2010 and a M.Mus. from the University of New Mexico in 2014. Mr. Regauer has been teaching violin and viola since 2006 and completed the Long Term-Training for all Suzuki Books in violin with Susan Kempter. Also, he has continued his teacher training in viola with Elizabeth Stuen Walker, Bill Preucil and Sarah Montzka. He attended other teaching courses with Mimi Zweig, Barbara Barber, Winifred Crock, Nancy Jackson, Doris Preucil, Laurie Scott, Mark Mutter and Pat D’Ercole. He has taught in Suzuki workshops in Brazil and Mexico, having fun learning and teaching; sometimes dressed as Gandalf or Waldo, playing scales, movie songs, Bach Minuets, leading the viola groups or teaching master classes. Currently, he works at the Centenary College of Louisiana as a violin/viola instructor and administrator to the Centenary Suzuki School in Shreveport, LA. When he is not busy working, Charles Regauer likes to make coffee and try different coffee beans from the world. Also, he likes to play video games, ride his bicycle, play soccer, golf, hiking, build paper airplanes, make barbecues and read.
