The Suzuki Association of South Florida cordially invites you to the Spring Workshop taking place on Saturday, April 20, 2024 from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM at Temple Beth El of Hollywood, 1351 South 14th Avenue, Hollywood, Florida, 33020.
We are very much looking forward to what promises to be another wonderful spring workshop this year. We are offering various classes for violin, viola, cello, and classical guitar as well as IJAM (music history), Alexander Technique, and SECE (Suzuki Early Childhood Education) classes. We will end our day with a group concert at 3:00 PM.
We have teachers and families attending from all over South Florida, from as far west as Florida’s Gulf Coast, as far north as Orlando, and as far south as Miami and sometimes the Keys. We are all looking forward to meeting or reconnecting with so many diverse members of the Suzuki community.
GUEST TEACHERS:
We are most fortunate to have an outstanding group of guest teachers who are coming from all over the U.S.A.
Violin: James Hutchins from Maryland
Violin/Alexander Technique: Wendy Waggener from California
Guitar/IJam (music history): Michele Monahan Horner from Connecticut
Cello: Dr. Susan Moyer Bergeron from Florida
Our wonderful group of local SASF teachers will be teaching elective classes throughout the day including fiddle, masterclasses, music reading classes, and Music Mind Games.
Aileen Robertson will be leading a Suzuki Early Childhood Education (SECE) class for our youngest participants from 0 to 4 years old. In this class, student and parent will explore music through listening and movement.
WORKSHOP OVERVIEW:
The exact schedule of all classes will be created and sent to all participants and teachers after the March 6, 2024, workshop registration deadline.
Registration will open at 8:30 AM on Saturday and classes will begin at 9:00 AM for most students. Saturday includes a lunchtime from 12:00 PM to 12:55 PM and the day concludes with all student's participating in a group concert at 3:00 PM.
A WORD TO VIOLISTS:
You are of course welcome in the violin classes of your level, but if there are enough of you, we will offer at least one separate class at each level. The minimum class size is 5, so tell your friends!
PRIMARY/SECONDARY INSTRUMENTS:
Some of our students play two instruments at the workshop. They will be asked to pick a primary instrument in which ALL primary instrument classes should be attended.
In addition, they will perform their primary instrument for the Saturday concert if classes covering the music have not been attended for the second instrument.
Students with a secondary instrument will be assigned to a group class for the secondary instrument. As long as those secondary classes are NOT in conflict with the primary instrument, they can attend that class. Every effort will be made to avoid conflicts.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED:
If you have or know a teenager who needs service hours or would just like to help with this or any of the many other jobs, please let us know. SASF is a non-profit organization, and this will be accepted as service hours by all schools.
